Description

This book follows the Venice footsteps of Donna Leon's much loved fictional detective Guido Brunetti, allowing the reader to move through the famous city with him as he records his emotional as well as visual responses to places he has known all his life, pausing with him to reflect and observe.Presented as a series of 13 walks through Venice, it features atmospheric extracts from relevant parts of the novels, with an interlinking commentary written by Toni Sepeda a Venetian and friend of Donna's - she writes the introduction to the book. The first walk begins at La Fenice Opera house - where the very first Brunetti mystery was set - and ends at the iconic Rialto bridge. From here each walk weaves interlinking paths through Venice and picks on a particular aspect of Brunetti's life - his love of food and his favourite places to eat in Piazza Santa Margarita, the walk from his family home in San Polo to the 'Questura' in Castello where he works, or cutting through Piazza San Marco and out to the remote parts of Venice where Brunetti's investigations sometimes take him. This is both a practical guide for visitors to the city and a wonderfully evocative narrative of the life of Venice, in the company of one of the best loved detectives in crime fiction
