This book offers a series of guidelines and general information, designs and sketches to help both architects and home owners to understand how to obtain significant savings in energy and water consumption, and also to get into the basic tenets of bioclimatic design for a healthier home. The design phase determines a large part of the savings in natural resources, energy and water that will be implemented during the construction and subsequent running of the home. Knowing what passive strategies are best suited to its orientation, latitude and climate; what active strategies (photovoltaics {solar power}, geothermal energy, underfloor heating, etc) will provide greater energy efficiency; or how to achieve a green home with respect to surfaces, materials and furniture, are some of the criteria dealt with in this book. The text is completed by over 250 colour illustrations and colour photographs in compliance with the criteria governing bioconstruction.
