Description

Slaying...and playing. All part of a day's work for Max Helsing. Descended from a long line of monster hunters, Max Helsing does a pretty good job of being an eighth grader by day and keeping his town safe from demons, ghouls and the occasional mummy by night. That is, until he turns thriteen and discovers he's been cursed by an ancient vampire who wants him dead - at any cost. To save the world - and his life - Max must rely on his wise-cracking best friend, cantankerous monster, computer genius neighbour, and brand-new puppy. He'll need all their help and more to break the Thirteenth Curse!

Reviews

You'd expect horror, but what surprises with this book is the clever way that there's plenty of humour too, as well as a hero who isn't just out to destroy by force; he is much more clever than that. -- Sarah Brew Parents In Touch Curtis Jobling's writing is crackingly good in this story injected with wisecracks, bone-cracks and crooked crucifixes as Max confronts an ancient evil. Fans of Percy Jackson are going to absolutely lap this one up. -- Phil May Read it Daddy The vocabulary is electrifying - Jobling's first description of a monster in the book is tremendous and reels the reader in for more. [...] Overall, it feels written with love. They say you should write the book you'd want to read for yourself - I imagine that's exactly what Curtis Jobling has done. Kids will monster munch it up. -- Clare Zinkin Minerva Reads As you'd expect this is full of thrilling action sequences but Max is a proper character, a decent young man at that, and his sardonic commentary on the gruesome goings on keep the balance between frightening and funny. Monstrous fun! Love Reading 4 Kids This action-packed thriller sets up what promises to be a series filled w ith legend, lore, and epic battles. Publishers Weekly
